Bike to Work Day

May is National Bike Month, so each year DCTMA holds its Bike to Work Day in conjunction with the national celebration. For the past 15 years, we’ve hosted a fun-filled morning event to help promote commuting by bicycle as a healthier, more eco-friendly, and great way to get to work and school. For the months leading up to Bike to Work Day, the DCTMA Bike/Pedestrian Committee works closely with county and local leaders, nearby business owners, cycling clubs, and other organizations to create the annual event and encourage people to bike to work.B2W flyer

2015 Bike to Work Day

Cyclists from across Delaware County gathered at the Courthouse in Media on Friday, May 15th, for the 14thAnnual Bike to Work Day celebration, coordinated by Delaware County Transportation Management Association and (DCTMA) and the Delaware County Planning Department.

The fun-filled morning featured breakfast treats and refreshments for participants; great raffle gifts donated by local bike shops, restaurants, and other businesses; and free giveaways like sport bottles, safety reflectors and trail maps. Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission was on hand giving out bicycle commuting information and free blinking lights for riders. For cyclists who couldn’t attend, DCTMA coordinated the first-ever “Social Media Cycle Challenge.” Participants chose a day in may to ride a bike to work instead of drive, snapped a photo, and posted it on our Facebook and/or Twitter pages. Winners chosen at random scored great prizes like gift cards and bike gear for entering.

2014 Bike to Work Day

Despite being postponed a week due to nasty thunderstorms, Mother Nature didn’t stop us the second time around. The 13th annual event went off without a hitch and every cyclist won a special raffle prize, such as helmets, tubing, LED safety lights, a pump, and gift cards to dozens of restaurants.

Special thanks to our premiere sponsor Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, as well as Delaware County Planning Department, DA Jack Whelan, DVRPC, David Bennett of Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia, and the DCTMA Executive Board. Refreshments were provided by Trader Joe’s, WAWA, Main Line Water, and Custom Bagel.
