Share-A-Ride $50 Gas Card Incentive

Sign up for the new Share-A-Ride, and when you form a carpool to work with one or more matches and fill out the necessary paperwork, you will receive a $50 gas card!  If you continue your carpool for at least 3 consecutive months, you receive a second $50 gas card. Once you form your carpool, contact Lfink@dctma.org to obtain your necessary paperwork.  Limited gas cards are available.  Must be within Delaware County, PA.

When we drive alone to work, we contribute to the increasing traffic congestion, which results in higher taxes due to the need for highway construction, higher insurance rates due to more traffic crashes, continuing dependence on foreign oil and gas, and greater air pollution. But, when we travel to work together, we stop contributing to the problem, and become part of the solution!

Share-A-Ride is a computerized program that uses detailed geographic data to offer commuting alternatives for employees who are currently driving alone. Share-A-Ride isn’t just about carpooling; it includes matches for convenient transit services, vanpool groups, even walking and bicycling opportunities — whatever options best suit each worksite.  The Share-A-Ride Program was updated in 2021, and now a rewards program for carpooling! Emergency Ride Home

The Emergency Ride Home (ERH) service is a “safety net” for commuters working in southeastern Pennsylvania who share their ride to work (carpool, vanpool, transit) on a regular basis. In the event of an unexpected personal or family emergency or illness, unscheduled overtime, or if the regular ride home is not available for certain reasons, registered commuters are provided with a free ride to their home, their car or to the place of the emergency.

This service is available only to:

  1. commuters who apply and are approved by signing up on the Share-A-Ride site (ERH is component of SAR but you do not need to be included in the match pool);
  2. commuters who are already registered with the Share-A-Ride (SAR) ride match program; or
  3. employees registered through their employer who participates in the Mobility Alternatives Program (MAP).

NOTE: Registration via SAR is a new feature’ if you were previously registered in the ERH database, you will have received instructions to add to your information on the secure SAR website.

Employees who register for ERH must commit to sharing a ride to work at least three (3) times per week, and the request for ERH must be made on a day when the commuter has shared a ride (is not using his/her own car). Commuters who qualify will be given detailed instructions of requirements and procedures upon registration.

To be reimbursed for your Emergency Ride Home, you must be registered with the program and submit this sheet [0.5 MB pdf] with a valid receipt to receive payment (up to $50 per use and/or $100 per year – 2 uses per year).

Vanpools

Vans, or vehicles which can hold seven to 15 people, are also an alternative. This option can be effective when several employees live in one specific area and when use of a larger vehicle is more efficient than the use of multiple cars. This service can be arranged through a third-party vanpool provider, with little or no company involvement, or it can be handled with company-provided or employee-owned vehicles. Costs are divided among the pool members.

Preferential Parking for Carpools

This program is one of the easiest to implement and costs virtually nothing! Employers designate several parking spaces or one general area closest to entrances for those employees who carpool or vanpool to work. This can be an attractive perk in any season, whether there’s rain, snow, bitter cold or extreme heat.
