2009 Bike to Work Day

Friday, May 15, 2009

8 - 10 am

A partnership between the DCTMA and the Delaware County Planning Department

Sponsored By:

This year's event was held on the grounds of the Delaware County Court House, Front and Olive Streets.  State Representative Steve Barrar was the Bike to Work Day Honorary Chairman again this year and joined 26 other cyclists by riding his bike.  In addition, Pattyann Lynch from State Represenative Micarelli's office rode her bike, as well as Council Vice Chair Jack Whalen and Councilman Tom McGarigle.

From points throughout Delaware County, commuter left their cars at home for the day and joined other cyclists riding to work - celebrating alternative transportation. The event kicked off with breakfast items and special raffle prizes donated by local businesses such as Custom Bagel, Crozer Keystone Health System, BikeLine, Cycle Sport, 320 Produce Market and Café, Wawa, Salad Stop and CycleFit of Delaware County.   And one lucky cyclist even rode away this year with our top prize - a brand new Cayne Rambler bicycle, courtesy of Drexel Hill Cyclery.

We thank everyone who participated or helped to make this event such a success this year!

2008-2009 DCTMA High School Seat Belt Challenge

Congratulations to Archbishop Prendergast High School - the 2008-2009 High School Seat Belt Challenge Winners!

Participating schools competed for a $500 grant to go to the student organization of their choice and a display plaque.  The DCTMA conducted two anonymous, un-announced surveys as a way to track the number of students and passengers who wore their seat belts on their way to school – one survey was done before a school wide safety assembly in March, and another about a month after the assembly.  The school’s students that showed the most improved seat belt use rate won the contest.  The Challenge is run by the DCTMA, in conjunction with Delaware County Highway Safety (a division of Public Health Management Corporation) and local police.
